Day By Day Ohio
The State Library of Ohio, in collaboration with Ohio Ready to Read, offers Day By Day Ohio. The Day By Day Ohio Family Literacy Calendar can be used at home, in the classroom, or on the go. The calendar features songs, activities, book suggestions, and videos, supporting early literacy skills.
TumbleBooks
TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of e-books for children. They are a great way to encourage tech-savvy kids to enjoy reading! There are over 250 animated, talking picture books! The site also features Spanish and French books, read-along chapter books, non-fiction books, and exciting games and puzzles! You can access materials without having to login as long as you use the link above. If you want to use the TumbleBookLibrary App, you’ll need to login using your library card.

Talk with Me Toolkits
The Talk with Me Toolkits give parents and caregivers thematically organized high-quality, authentic materials to make children their conversational partners in discussions that matter. Each online toolkit features captivating videos and real-world photographs, as well as intriguing paintings and other artworks to observe and discuss through conversation prompts.

Ohio Web Library
Provides research resources & how-to information such as magazine articles, genealogy, guides, reference and encyclopedias. The OWL also includes homework resources for kids. Some of our favorites include Ancestry.com, ChiltonLibrary, and World Book Students.
ProQuest: Black Freedom Struggle
ProQuest invites you to explore the new Black Freedom Struggle website, featuring expertly selected open primary source documents. Visitors will find historical newspaper articles, pamphlets, diaries, correspondence and more from specific time periods in U.S. history marked by the opposition African Americans have faced on the road to freedom.
InfOhio
INFOhio, Ohio’s PreK-12 Digital Library, supports remote learning and provides an array of research and instructional resources to all Ohio PreK-12th grade students at no cost to the student, family, or school. See their Parent Tools Page for additional information/tips and tricks.
Newspapers
Local newspapers from 1862-1986 have now been digitized and are searchable. A microfilm reader and computer are also available in the Marvin Room. Search the digitized newspaper archive.
Chronicling America provides free online access to over 17 million digitized historic newspaper pages covering 1789-1963 from over 50 U.S. states and territories. Check out these high quality, full-text searchable, public domain newspaper pages at chroniclingamerica.loc.gov!
Genealogy
The Richland County – Shelby Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society maintains a reference library in the Marvin Room in the lower level of the library. The collection contains books of land records, births, deaths, census, cemetery, military service, Shelby high school yearbooks, city directories, and history of Richland County, as well as other Ohio counties.
The chapter’s website also chronicles people, businesses, and events in Shelby’s history.
The group meets at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of the month September through May in the meeting room, lower level, of Marvin Memorial Library. Visitors are welcome!

We provide searches for obituaries with an exact date of death. Obituaries can be scanned and emailed (preferred method as no postage is required), or mailed. $.10/copy +postage.
